XVII. Rev. 17:14. “He is LORD of lords and King of kings”
1. It is of the Lamb, the Son of GOD, that these words are spoken.
All power is in Him as GOD.
All power is given to Him as Man.
2. All power comes from Him.
Earthly rulers and all in authority are to be obeyed on this account.
But He must be obeyed on His own account:
Either willingly, now and hereafter;
Or unwillingly, now and hereafter.
None can resist His will in the end.
3. Our free will allows us to disobey Him.
But it cannot hinder His justice.
Far better is it, therefore, to offer Him a willing service which will meet with a reward than to be punished by Him for disobedience.
4. He reigned with the Father in eternity.
He reigned also “from the tree.”
“He must reign till He hath put all enemies under His feet.”
He will reign for ever and ever.
Resolutions.—To submit my whole self, body, soul, and spirit, to Him.
To submit myself to all in any way set over me “as unto the LORD.”
Text.—“Thy kingdom come.”
