JOHN 6:28-30 NKJV

Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”
Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”
Therefore they said to Him, “What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do?
JOHN 6:28-30 NKJV

John 6:28, 29 This is the work (Gk. ergon) of God, rather than man’s work for God, which the people were wanting to do (v. 28). Salvation is totally by God’s undeserved favor.
John 6:30 When Jesus said “believe in Him whom He sent,” (v. 29), the people must have understood that He was claiming to be the Messiah. Therefore, they asked for a sign—despite the fact that they had just witnessed the miracle of the feeding of the multitudes.
