EVENTS PRECEDING

Events are listed sequentially. Exact times are not recorded in Scripture. Only Mark’s Gospel states actual times: “3rd hour,” “6th hour,” “9th hour”.

9 AM (3rd hour)

THE CRUCIFIXION

10 AM (4th hour)

The soldiers divided up his clothes and cast lots to see what each would get. Mark 15:24

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Luke 23:34

It was the third hour when they crucified him. Mark 15:25

Those who passed by hurled insults at him … saying … “Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!” Matt. 27:39–40

The chief priests mockingly said, “He saved others … but he can’t save himself!” Mark 15:31

The soldiers also came up and mocked him: “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.” Luke 23:36–37

11 AM (5th hour)

One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at Jesus: “Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!” Luke 23:39

But the other criminal rebuked him … Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Luke 23:40–42

Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you shall be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:43

Jesus … said to his mother, “Dear woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” John 19:26–27

12 PM (6th hour)

At the sixth hour darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour. Mark 15:33

1 PM (7th hour)

Jesus cried … “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Matt. 27:46

“I am thirsty.” John 19:28

2 PM (8th hour)

“It is finished.” John 19:30

“Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” Luke 23:46

3 PM (9th hour)

JESUS DIES

         •       The centurion … exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God.” Matt. 27:54

The tomb is secured by a seal and a guard is posted Matt. 27:66
