HOMOSEXUALITY: The Levitical Passages

HOMOSEXUALITY
THE LEVITICAL PASSAGES
By Kenute P. Curry

1. You shall not lie
שָׁכַב [shakab /shaw•kab/] with a male זָכָר [zakar /zaw•kawr/] as with a woman. It is an abomination תֹּועֵבָה [tow`ebah, to`ebah /to•ay•baw/] (Leviticus 18:22).
Homosexuality in this verse is labeled as an abomination, something that is detestable to the LORD. This verse is cut and dried. There is no getting around it. The statement is made very clear and plain. Homosexuality is an abomination to the LORD. Yahweh wants us to be set apart from sin and consecrated to Him.

2. If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death
מוּת [muwth /mooth/]. Their blood דָּם [dam /dawm/] shall be upon them (Leviticus 20:13).
Here again the statement is made clear and plain. Homosexuality is an abomination, something that is detestable to the LORD. Expounding on homosexuality further in this verse, the writer states that it carried with it the death penalty under the Mosaic Law. Their guilty blood would be upon their own heads.
