HEBREW TRANSLITERATION: salt

HEBREW TRANSLITERATIONS

9. salt: Transliteration: Strong’s H4417 מֶלַח [melach /meh·lakh/] n m. From 4414; TWOT 1197a; GK 4875; 28 occurrences; AV translates as “salt” 27 times, and “saltpits + 4379” once. 1 salt.

The word “salt” transliterates as Strong’s H4417 melach /meh·lakh, meaning salt or saltpits. This mineral is sodium chloride, a white crystalline substance. Asphalt, a black mineral substance, which is a form of bitumen, is found especially in the Dead Sea region. Because of her disobedience in looking back at Sodom, Lot’s wife became encased in salt, or became a “pillar of salt.” It also could have been a mixture of salt and asphalt she was framed in. There were no more chances for her; she had her chance to escape judgment and disobeyed Yahweh, the Sovereign of the universe. Oh that we as God’s representatives would warn the people of the impending judgment to come. We are called to be “watchmen” by the Sovereign LORD, Jehovah.
