Demons can enact supernatural strength

Matthew tells us that “they were so violent that no one could pass that way” (Matt. 8:28). Luke tells us that the demons enabled the man to break chains (see Luke 8:29). I feel the need to stress something about supernatural power: not all of it comes from God! I have felt chills run down my spine when I’ve heard someone say: “It had to be God! It was totally supernatural!” At times Satan is able to display signs and wonders.

Violence is one of the most obvious fingerprints of Satan. We don’t even have to wonder if the constant surge in societal violence is his activity. Unthinkable crimes are now commonplace. We can underscore two truths from this point:

            •       Not all supernatural power comes from God.

            •       While not all demonic activity appears violent, virtually all violence originates with the power of darkness.

Remember, ours is the Prince of Peace. All conflict He ordains is for the ultimate purpose of peace under His righteous rule. Oh, for the government that will be on His shoulders (see Isa. 9:6–7)!
