COMPASSION WITHOUT RESTRAINT

COMPASSION WITHOUT RESTRAINT

LUKE 7:11–17
When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.” (Luke 7:13)

With Christ’s transcendent hatred of death, He had an entirely different angle on the sight in Nain. Jesus viewed death from a heavenly perspective: earthly life is but a breath. Eternity holds riches for the trusting. Christ knew that death, for the faithful, is the door for a greater reality of life. I have a feeling, however, that occupying a cloak of human flesh and staring grief straight in the face from street level was momentarily staggering for Christ. I believe Scripture suggests such a thing. “When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, ‘Don’t cry’” (Luke 7:13).
