2. Bring your disappointment to the Altar.

2. Bring your disappointment to the Altar.

In Judaism, not having a child for a woman was a deep, deep reproach. It was the only thing a woman was called to do.

Zechariah and Elizabeth were descendants of Aaron. Zechariah is the division of one particular man, Abijah. There were 24 divisions of the Priesthood in first-century Judaism. Each division served two different weeks over the course of a year.

What Zechariah got to do on that particular day, he would get to do for one time in his entire life. He had never offered the incense at the Altar in his life, nor would he ever again. It was chosen by lot. It was one of the biggest days of Zechariah’s life.

This was the time when the priest was giving the prayers for the Redemption of Israel.

They had not heard one fresh word from God at this point, in 400 years.
