VIII. Rev. 8:13. “Woe to the inhabiters of the earth!”
1. At the last great day, when “the elements shall melt with fervent heat”:
Then will there be woe to the inhabiters of the earth.
Then will there be no more chance of repentance, for the day of grace will be past.
2. What will that woe mean?
Separation from GOD and from Heaven.
The companionship of Satan and his angels.
Eternal misery and torment.
3. We know not whether we may not be of the number of the lost.
Therefore we must take great heed to ourselves.
We must not be of the earth, earthy.
We must have our citizenship in Heaven; our hopes and our treasure must be there.
Then we shall not be consumed with the ungodly inhabiters of the earth.
Resolutions.—To “agonise” to enter in at the strait gate.
To avoid, as far as possible, the temptations of the world.
Text.—“Here have we no continuing city.”
