“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.
JOHN 5:24-25 NKJV
John 5:24 The phrase believes in Him who sent Me is unusual. Christ, not the Father, is usually the object of this verb in John. The issue in this passage is the unity of the Father and the Son (vv. 17–23). All who believe in the One who sent Christ will believe in Christ. shall not come into judgment: A judgment to decide a person’s eternal destiny is no longer possible for the one who has already been given eternal life. However, all believers will stand before the judgment seat of Christ (Rom. 14:10; 2 Cor. 5:10), not for punishment of sin, but to determine inheritance in Messiah’s kingdom.
John 5:25 and now is: In the present, Christ gives spiritual life to the spiritually dead.
