Matthew 24:36 (NKJV)
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
No one knows: In spite of such clear statements (vv. 42, 44; 25:13; Acts 1:6, 7), there are still multitudes that follow those who, in disobedience to Christ’s word, still set dates for the coming of the Lord. The fact is that there are no prophesied events that have yet to take place before our Lord’s rapture of the church. It is imminent; that is, it can happen at any time. Thus, we ought not to be looking for signs of a sign-less event. There are no signs of the time because we are not in the time of the prophesied signs (1 Thess. 1:10; 4:13–18; 1 Cor. 15:51, 52). The earliest Greek manuscripts add “nor the Son” after the angels of heaven. How can Jesus as God say, “I do not know” (Mark 13:32)? When the Lord Jesus was incarnate He voluntarily limited His use of His divine attributes to His Father’s will (Phil. 2:5–8; John 17:4, 5). Therefore He hungered and became thirsty and weary. Luke records that Jesus grew in knowledge and wisdom (Luke 2:52). This statement in v. 36, then, was made while He had surrendered the independent use of His divine omniscience.
