LUKE 22:70

LUKE 22:70

They demanded in verse 67: “If you are the Christ, . . . tell us.” Christ immediately pointed out three truths:

            1.       “If I tell you, you will not believe me” (v. 67). In other words, “My answer would make no difference, would it?”
            2.       “If I asked you, you would not answer” (v. 68). I believe this statement referred to the messianic prophecies of healing and miracles. Christ was saying that if He asked if He had fulfilled those prophecies, they would refuse to answer.
            3.       “The Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God” (v. 69). In other words, “What you think makes no difference anyway. The mission will be accomplished, and I will reign with my Father over the kingdom.”
The council of the elders then asked the question they hoped would provoke the incriminating answer they needed: “Are you then the Son of God?” (v. 70).
I love Christ’s answer: “You are right in saying I am” (v. 70). Christ repeated words to them not so unlike His Father’s to Moses in Exodus 3:14: “I AM WHO I AM.”
