THE SEVENTY WEEKS OF DANIEL - PART 1 (Daniel 9:24-26)

THE SEVENTY WEEKS OF DANIEL - PART 1 (Daniel 9:24-26)

Kenute P. Curry

“ Seventy weeks are determined
      For your people
(Daniel’s people, the Jews) and for your holy city (Jerusalem),
      To finish the transgression,
      To make an end of sins,
      To make reconciliation for iniquity,
      To bring in everlasting righteousness,
      To seal up vision and prophecy,
      And to anoint the Most Holy.
      “ Know therefore and understand,
      That from the going forth of the command
      To restore and build Jerusalem
(Nehemiah 2:1-8 – 445 B.C)
      Until Messiah the Prince,
      There shall be seven weeks
(49 years) and sixty-two weeks (434 years);
      The street shall be built again, and the wall,
      Even in troublesome times
(Ezra, Nehemiah).
      “And after the sixty-two weeks
      Messiah
(Jesus Christ) shall be cut off (Crucifixion), but not for Himself;
      And the people
(Roman) of the prince who is to come (Antichrist)
      Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary
(70 A.D).
      The end of it shall be with a flood,
      And till the end of the war desolations are determined.”
(Daniel 9:24-26)

These are weeks of years, whereas weeks of days are described in Daniel 10:2-3. The seventy weeks culminate in a total of 490 years. The time spans from Artaxerxes’s decree to rebuild Jerusalem in 445 B.C. (Nehemiah 2:1-8), to the Messiah’s kingdom.
