The Church in Sardis
Sardis was probably founded as an outreach of Paul’s ministry at Ephesus (Acts 19:10).
The most prominent person from the church at Sardis known to history is Melito. He was an apologist (one who wrote in defense of Christianity) who served as bishop of Sardis in the late second century. He was a great authority in early Christianity, and was esteemed a prophet by many of the faithful. He also wrote the earliest known commentary on passages from Revelation.
Acts 19:10 - And this continued for two years, so that all who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
