ONLY GOD CAN PROPHESY

ONLY GOD CAN PROPHESY

When it comes to predicting the future, mankind has a poor record. We simply have no way of knowing what’s going to happen tomorrow, the next day, the next month, or the next year. By contrast, God knows the future, and reveals glimpses of it in the Bible. And so far, every single prediction that’s been fulfilled has occurred exactly the way God said it would. He has never even been slightly wrong.

1. According to Isaiah 46:9-10, God is able to do that which no one else can do. He “Declares the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done.” As the Sovereign of the cosmos, God can do anything He desires. His pleasure (Psalm 147:10, 11) includes the salvation of His people (Zephaniah 3:17) and the worship of their hearts (John 4:23, 24).

2. According to Isaiah 45:5-7, the LORD “forms light, creates darkness, makes peace, and creates calamity.” This tells us that “He is the Lord, and there is no other; There is no God besides Him.” No other person or object can compare to the holiness and power of our living Creator. He is sovereign over everything—both good and evil.

3. In Psalm 33:10-11, it tells us that “He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect” and “The plans of His heart to all generations.” In contrast to the ineffective counsel of the nations, the counsel of God is wise counsel that lasts forever. Those who listen to God’s counsel will be happy.

4. Proverbs 21:1 tells us that “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord.” Note the examples of the divine hand of God in the cases of Artaxerxes (Ezra 7:21–23), Tiglath-pileser (Isaiah 10:5–7), Cyrus (Isaiah 45:1–4), and Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 4:34) and Belshazzar (Daniel 5:23–25).

5. Based on the aforementioned verses, they show us that God has complete and total control over world events.

6. This should increase our level of confidence greatly, to know that God is sovereign and in complete control of our destiny.

7. This benefits us, as Christian believers, in keeping focused on God, to walk in total obedience to Him, and to trust Him with everything in our lives.
