REST FOR THE WEARY
Kenute P. Curry
“Come unto me….and I will give you rest.” These are the words of Jesus to us. This is the true spiritual rest that only He can give.
Matthew 11:28-30
1. IN BEING WEIGHED DOWN, DAVID SAID “MY SINS ARE FLOODED OVER MY HEAD; LIKE A BURDEN TOO HEAVY FOR ME (Psalm 38:4).
2. THE LONGING IS EXPRESSED TO HAVE THE WINGS OF A DOVE, AND FLY AWAY TO REST (Psalm 55:6).
3. WE ARE TO CAST OUR BURDEN ON THE LORD, AND HE WILL SUSTAIN US (Psalm 55:22).
Mark 6:31
4. WE ARE ENCOURAGED TO LAY ASIDE EVERY WEIGHT AND THE SIN THAT SO EASILY ENSNARES US (Hebrews 12:1).
5. WE ARE TO FIND THE ROADWAY OR ANCIENT PATH, THEN TAKE IT, AND FIND REST FOR OURSELVES (Jeremiah 6:16). WHEN WE RETURN TO REST, THE LORD HAS, AND WILL BE GOOD TO US (Psalm 116:7).
Psalm 37:7
6. WE CAN REST IN HOPE THAT THE LORD IS EVER BEFORE US, AND WE WILL NOT BE SHAKEN (Acts 2:25-26).
7. WE HAVE REST FROM SORROW, FEAR, AND HARD BONDAGE (Isaiah 14:3).
8. THE CALL IS TO BE DILIGENT TO ENTER THE EVERLASTING REST, BY BELIEVING IN JESUS, THE SON OF GOD (Hebrews 4:11).
Rest. We all need it. Jesus can provide both spiritual and physical rest for us. He is the One who can meet all of our needs. The fast pace of the human race gives us no time for rest, until Jesus stops us in our tracks, and says “Come unto me.” There is where futility, failure, and finality are defeated.
