 Do you not know that if you offer yourself to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of that one you obey? Romans 6:16

 Until my mother's dying day, every time I asserted myself about anything, she reminded me of the time our family doctor told me I couldn't go swimming because I had an ear infection. Mom said I squinted my eyes at him and said, “Oh yeah? Well, you're not the boss of me!” The problem is, God did not design us to boss ourselves. He formed our psyches to require authority so we'd live in the safety of His careful rule. Satan tries to draw us away from God's authority by making us think we can do just fine as our own producer and director. But we quickly learn what miserable bosses we are.
