HOPE IN THE FACE OF DISCOURAGEMENT
Kenute P. Curry
We have all been discouraged like a blanket that envelops us and pulls us down. Even in the face of trials, we can look discouragement in the eye with confidence, and say “God is still in control!”
Luke 24:13-14
1. DAVID DESCRIBES THE STATE OF HIS HEART AS BEING FAINT AND SEVERELY CRUSHED (Psalm 38:8). SORROW PRODUCES A BROKEN SPIRIT (Proverbs 15:13). THE LORD IS NEAR TO THOSE WITH A BROKEN HEART; HE SAVES THOSE CRUSHED IN SPIRIT (Psalm 34:18).
2. WITH THE TWO DISCIPLES ON THE ROAD TO EMMAEUS, JESUS WAS KEEPING THE PROMISE THAT HE IS THE ONE WHO GOES BEFORE THEM; HE WILL NOT LEAVE US OR FORSAKE US (Deuteronomy 31:8).
3. WE SEE INDISTINCTLY IN A MIRROR, AND WE KNOW IN PART; BUT THEN WE WILL SEE FACE TO FACE, AND BE KNOWN AS WE ARE FULLY KNOWN (1 Corinthians 13:12).
Lamentations 1:20
4. JESUS FULFILLED THE LAW OF MOSES, THE PROPHETS, AND THE PSALMS (Luke 24:44).
5. ALL OF THE PROPHETS TESTIFY ABOUT JESUS (Acts 10:43).
Luke 24:25
6 A. GOD IS GLORIOUS, PERFORMING WONDERS (Exodus 15:11).
HE MADE JESUS WHO KNEW NO SIN TO BE SIN FOR US (2 Corinthians 5:21).
B. GOD WOULD BRING HONOR TO ZEBULUN AND NAPHTALI (Isaiah 9:1-2).
JESUS LIVED IN THE REGION OF ZEBULUN AND NAPHTALI (Matthew 4:12-17).
C. JESUS WOULD BEAR THE SIN OF MANY IN DEATH (Isaiah 53:12).
JESUS LAID DOWN HIS LIFE FOR THE WORLD (John 10:11).
7. WE SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO THE PROPHETIC WORD THAT IS STRONGLY CONFIRMED (2 Peter 1:19).
8. THE TWO DISCIPLES ON THE ROAD TO EMMAEUS DESCRIBED THEIR EXPERIENCE AS BEING TAUGHT BY THE LORD OF “THEIR HEARTS BEING ABLAZE WITHIN THEM” AS HE EXPLAINED THE SCRIPTURES TO THEM (Luke 24:32).
9. THOSE ARE BLESSED WHO READ, HEAR, AND KEEP THE WORDS OF THIS PROPHECY (Revelation 1:3). THE ONE IS BLESSED WHO FOLLOWS AND OBEYS THE PROPHETIC WORDS OF THIS BOOK (Revelation 22:7).
Life’s mishaps and tragedies are not a reason to bail out. They are simply a reason to sit tight. Jesus always shows up right on time!
