DEATH WATCH
Kenute P. Curry
For most of us, death looms like a glooming Specter ready to sweep down upon us. Good news! Jesus forever conquered that enemy!
John 11:38-39
1. GOD TOLD ADAM THAT HE WOULD RETURN TO THE GROUND FROM WHERE HE WAS TAKEN FROM. DUST YOU ARE, AND YOU WILL RETURN TO DUST (Genesis 3:19).
Job 16:22
2. OUR LIVES ARE SHORT OF DAYS AND FULL OF TROUBLE (Job 14:1-2). ALL OF OUR DAYS EBB AWAY; WE END OUR YEARS LIKE A SIGH (Psalm 90:9). YOUR LIFE IS A VAPOR THAT APPEARS FOR A LITTLE WHILE, THEN VANISHES AWAY (James 4:14).
3. THE LORD WILL DESTROY DEATH. HE WILL RAMSOM US FROM THE POWER OF SHEOL (Grave) (Hosea 13:14). DEATH IS DESCRIBED AS AN ENEMY AND IT WILL BE DESTROYED (1 Corinthians 15:26).
4. JESUS DECLARES I LIVE, AND WAS DEAD, AND AM ALIVE FOREVERMORE. I HAVE THE KEYS OF HADES (Grave) AND OF DEATH (Revelation 1:18).
5. PAUL DESCRIBES SPIRITUAL DEATH (Dead in Trespasses), BECAUSE OF OUR SINFULNESS (Ephesians 2:5). JESUS CHRIST HAS ABOLISHED DEATH, AND BROUGHT LIFE AND IMMORTALITY TO LIGHT THROUGH THE GOSPEL (2 Timothy 1:10). IF WE HEAR JESUS WORD, AND BELIEVE IN GOD, WE HAVE PASSED FROM DEATH INTO LIFE (John 5:24-25).
6. WHEN WE WERE DEAD IN SIN, AND DEVOID OF SPIRITUAL LIFE; CHRIST MADE US ALIVE TOGETHER WITH HIM, AND BROUGHT FORGIVENESS TO US (Colossians 2:13).
2 Timothy 1:10
7. CHRIST HAVING BEEN RAISE FROM THE DEAD WILL NOT DIE AGAIN. DEATH NO LONGER RULES OVER HIM (ROMANS 6:9).
8. GOD WILL WIPE AWAY EVERY TEAR FROM OUR EYES. THERE WILL BE NO MORE DEATH, SORROW, CRYING, OR PAIN (REVELATION 21:4).
When Jesus showed up at the tomb of Lazarus, He certainly quelled the death watch!
He’s alive!
Lazarus is alive!
He’s alive!
