COMPASSION
Kenute P. Curry
Compassionate is to be sensitive and sympathetic to the needs of others; to develop a humble and caring attitude when it comes to the plight of another’s situation or circumstance in life. This is what we are called to do by Jesus Christ Himself. Fulfill your calling my dear brother and sister, and receive the blessing of Christ!
1. WE ARE CALLED TO SERVE THE LORD AND PEOPLE THROUGH MINISTRY (Mark 1:17).
2. IT IS A HOLY CALLING ACCORDING TO GOD’S OWN PURPOSE AND GRACE (Romans 8:28; 2 Timothy 1:9).
3. JESUS WAS MOVED WITH COMPASSION TOWARD THOSE IN NEED (Matthew 14:14).
4. PEOPLES SPIRITUAL NEEDS ARE MORE DESPERATE THAN THEIR PHYSICAL NEEDS. PRAY TO YAHWEH THAT HE WILL SEND OUT DISCIPLES INTO THE WORLD TO MEET THE SPIRITUAL NEEDS OF PEOPLE (Matthew 9:36-38).
Lamentations 3:19-23; Isaiah 58:11; James 5:11; Psalm 89:15; 78:38; Micah 7:19; Zechariah 7:9; Hebrews 4:14-15.
Psalm 86:15
5. WE ARE TO COME ALONGSIDE AND HELP CARRY, BEAR, OR ENDURE THE PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, OR SPIRITUAL LOAD THREATENING TO CRUSH OUR FELLOW BELIEVERS (Galatians 6:2).
SUMMARY – We are to be glad in the blessings and welfare of others, and also, to be sensitive and compassionate to the hardships and sorrows of others (Romans 12:15).
Zechariah 7:9
We are to have inward unity of heart – be sympathetic, love believers, be compassionate and humble. Do not pay back evil for evil, but instead, give a blessing to others (1 Peter 3:8-9).
All solitude and no service equal selfishness. Some solitude and some service equal perspective.
