CHRISTIAN SERVICE, PROMPTED BY DUTY
Kenute P. Curry
Imagine, the two Mary’s are heading to the tomb to give. It is a dark Sunday morning and they expect nothing in return; just to anoint the body of their Lord and Savior.
Matthew 28:5-6
1. TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN JESUS, HE IS PRECIOUS (1Peter 2:7).
2. WE ARE TO FEAR THE LORD AND WORSHIP HIM FAITHFULLY WITH ALL OF OUR HEART (1 Samuel 12:24).
3. AS BELIEVERS, WE ARE TO BE KINDLY AFFECTIONATE TO ONE ANOTHER IN LOVE; FERVENT IN SPIRIT, SERVING THE LORD (Romans 12:10-11).
4. WE ARE TO TRUST IN THE NAME OF YAHWEH AND RELY IN HIM (Isaiah 50:10).
5. JUST AROUND THE CORNER, AN ANGEL OF THE LORD AWAITED THE TWO MARY’S; HIS APPEARANCE LIKE LIGHTNING, AND HIS ROBE AS WHITE AS SNOW (Matthew 28:2-4).
6. JESUS SAID “EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE TO THE ONE WHO BELIEVES” (Mark 9:23).
7. THE PLEA “LORD I BELIEVE, HELP MY UNBELIEF” (Mark 9:24).
Mark 5:36
8. WE ARE INVITED TO BELIEVE IN GOD, AND BELIVE ALSO IN JESUS (John 14:1).
9. THE HOPE THIS PRAYER IN HEBREWS GIVES IS THE ASSURANCE OF PERSEVERING TO THE END, WHEN WE OURSLVES, WILL SEE JESUS (Hebrews 6:11).
Consider when the two Mary’s approached the tomb, what a dazzling sight the saw. An angel of the Lord had rolled back the stone and was sitting on it; not to let Jesus out, for He had already risen. It was to let the two women see the evidence inside; that Jesus had triumphantly risen from the grave. On the way back to inform His disciples, Jesus met them. Beloved, can you imagine this! Two surprises! But then, God deals in surprises! These women were rewarded for their devotion and diligence to Christ. The darkness is gone, and the Son is out! Hallelujah!
