Jehovah-Tsidkenu: The Lord Who Is Righteous
The next name by which God is celebrated in the Old Testament is found in Jeremiah 23:5–6. Jeremiah prophesied at a time of great pain and sorrow in Jerusalem—Babylon was ransacking the nation and city as God’s instrument of judgment on Judah’s sins. When Jeremiah was called by God, he was told that no one would listen to his message of repentance and judgment but that he was not to lose heart over such rejection (Jeremiah 1:1–8).
God came to Jeremiah in the midst of his ministry and revealed Himself to the prophet in a new way:
“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,
That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness;
A King shall reign and prosper,
And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.
In His days Judah will be saved,
And Israel will dwell safely;
Now this is His name by which He will be called:
THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”
In the midst of sin and destruction, God showed Jeremiah that a ruler was coming who would establish righteousness in the land, whose name would be Jehovah-Tsidkenu, or “The Lord Who Is Righteous.”
I have to believe Jeremiah built an altar and celebrated the Lord who is righteous.
