DAY 4: SOLAR LIGHT RESTORED
Then
God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the
day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and
years; and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light
on the earth”; and it was so. Then God made two great lights: the greater light
to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the
stars also. God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the
earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light
from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the
morning were the fourth day. (Genesis 1:14-19).
For three days there had been some kind
of supernatural light, and God could have left it that way, but He did not. The
Great and Mighty God provided lights, or
luminaries, in the heaven, including the sun, moon, and stars. They were
illuminating objects and produced the division between the day and night,
serving as markers for signs, days, seasons, and years. These markers included:
1. The
weather (Matthew 16:2-3)
2. Testimony
to God ( Psalms 8; 19; Romans 1:14-20)
3. Divine
judgment (Joel 2:30-31; Matthew 24:29)
4. Navigation
(Matthew 2:1-2)
It was God who created the lights, and
He alone is in control.
