TAKE THE PROPHETS, WHO SPOKE IN THE NAME OF THE LORD (James 5:10).
The Old Testament prophets are brought forth as an example of suffering and patience. Note that suffering precedes patience. "Tribulation produces perseverance" (Romans 5:3). Patience in the New Testament means fortitude or steadfastness. Because of their faithfulness in declaring the Word of the Lord, the prophets were persecuted unmercifully. Yet "they endured as seeing Him who is invisible." (Hebrews 11:27, 32-40).
