THE TESTING OF YOUR FAITH PRODUCES PATIENCE (James 1:3)
James pictures faith as a precious metal which is being tried by the Assayer (God) to see if it is genuine. The metal is subjected to the fires of persecution, sickness, suffering, or sorrow. Without problems, we would never develop endurance. When we are tried, we will come forth as gold!
